Tool notes & guidance

How to use this tool

  1. Select your currency and enter the gold-only weight in grams, excluding stones and other materials.
  2. Select carat and enter a verified 24-carat price per gram in the same currency.
  3. Calculate the metal valuation. Carry the eligible value into the complete Zakat worksheet once, after checking jewellery treatment.

Gold valuation: weight, carat and price

Formula

Pure-gold equivalent = item weight × carat ÷ 24. Metal value = pure-gold equivalent × your verified 24-carat price per gram. The displayed conditional Zakat estimate is 2.5% of that value.

Worked example

A 20g item of 18-carat gold has a 15g pure-gold equivalent. At an illustrative £80 per pure gram, the metal value is £1,200 and the conditional 2.5% estimate is £30. The price is an example, not a live quotation.

What this does not decide

Remove stones and non-gold parts from the gold weight. Personal-use jewellery treatment differs between approaches. Check eligibility and combine eligible metal with your other wealth in the complete calculator.

Common questions

Can I enter a 22-carat retail price?

This tool expects a 24-carat price and adjusts for purity itself. Entering an already adjusted 22-carat price would adjust the value twice.

What about several purities?

Calculate each purity separately, record the metal values, then combine eligible values in the complete Zakat calculator.
