Calculation Methodology
How our tools work, and what the numbers mean.
Zakat on monetary wealth
The main tool uses either quick totals or the detailed worksheet, never both together. It sums eligible values, subtracts permitted deductions, floors net wealth at zero and applies 2.5% for a lunar-year estimate. Weight mode values gold as weight × purity ÷ 24 × your entered pure-gold price, and silver as eligible grams × your entered pure-silver price. The optional tola/bhori conversion uses the labelled 11.66g convention. The Nisab helper uses your entered price and chosen weight convention; it is not a live price feed. Already-paid amounts reduce only the remaining estimate, with any excess shown separately. Unresolved detailed asset or debt treatment keeps the result conditional. It only labels a threshold as met when you supply a positive Nisab. You must confirm the relevant conditions and your chosen treatment of jewellery, investments, pensions and debts.
Gold valuation and Nisab
Pure-gold equivalent is weight × carat ÷ 24. The value is that equivalent × your supplied 24-carat price per gram. Nisab uses your supplied metal prices and your selected weight convention: 87.48g / 612.36g or 85g / 595g. We do not claim to provide live metal prices. See Islamic Relief’s Nisab guidance and choose guidance appropriate to your circumstances.
Fitrana and Fidya
These tools multiply the headcount or eligible days by your supplied rate. Rates are not prefilled as universal amounts. The Fidya tool requires confirmation that Fidya applies; it does not decide whether fasts should be made up. Read Fidya reference guidance.
Prayer times and Qibla
Prayer data comes from AlAdhan, using selected city or permission-based coordinates, date, calculation method, Asr school and high-latitude adjustment. Shafi‘i, Maliki and Hanbali share standard Asr (school=0), while Hanafi uses school=1. Custom settings use Fajr and optional Maghrib angles plus an Isha angle or a minutes-after-Maghrib interval. Native provider parameters are shown in the table below; Egyptian Bis and France angle variants use explicit custom settings. UAE uses a labelled Gulf-region approximation, not an official Awqaf feed. Basque federation parameters must be entered after local verification. London Unified is linked as a published London-only timetable; importing it into the site requires a provider API key. Qibla is calculated with the initial great-circle bearing to coordinates 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. The bearing is relative to true north; this tool does not read a live device compass.
Hijri calendar and planners
Gregorian-to-Hijri conversion uses the browser’s Islamic Umm al-Qura calendar, with an optional one-day adjustment. Local observed dates can differ. Quran and Hifz tools perform scheduling arithmetic using the counts you enter. Budget tools use user-entered amounts, not travel quotations.
Sources and review status
We consulted Islamic Relief’s giving guidance, AlAdhan’s methods and API material, and Quran.com for further learning. These references do not imply endorsement. The content has not been independently reviewed by a scholar. Financial estimates and specialist personal questions should be checked with a qualified adviser.
Islamic inheritance — supported scope
The inheritance calculator supports only spouse(s), parents and direct sons/daughters when the user confirms that no other relatives or exceptional circumstances are present. It is a Sunni primary-heir educational model, not an all-schools or complete family-tree engine. Spouse shares follow Quran 4:12; parent and child shares follow Quran 4:11. The mother takes one third of the residue in the two spouse-and-both-parents cases. The father takes the residue where appropriate; sons and daughters share residue at 2:1. When prescribed shares exceed the whole estate, Awl reduces them proportionately. The Radd option returns surplus proportionately to eligible blood heirs, excluding a spouse; the alternative leaves surplus unallocated for specialist review. A spouse-only case always leaves the residue explicitly unallocated. Calculations use reduced exact fractions, with minor-unit amounts reconciled by largest remainders; a one-penny difference from independent rounding can occur. Funeral costs and confirmed debts precede a valid non-heir bequest, limited here to one third of the post-liability estate. Larger or heir-directed bequests require specialist advice. Quran text, translations and recitations
The Quran reader displays the published Uthmani Arabic text unchanged, with edition identifiers and translator attribution. Translations explain meanings; transliteration is a pronunciation aid. Text and audio are provided by Al Quran Cloud under its terms, with Arabic text credited to Tanzil. A translation is not generated by this site. Availability and translator metadata vary by edition. Arabic and Latin transliteration are stored locally; translation and recitation services require connectivity. Audio begins only on request.
