How to cite a Hadith when editions use different numbers
A Hadith number is useful only when its collection and numbering system are clear. Translations may split or combine narrations differently, and websites can use different editions. Preserve the reference shown by the source rather than assuming the same number identifies the same text everywhere.

Record more than a number
Save the collection, book or chapter, displayed Hadith reference, edition or translator and source link. Keep enough opening words to identify the narration, while respecting the publisher’s reuse terms. If a grading is shown, record who assigned it. Do not replace a source’s grading with a label generated from a search result.
Compare wording and context
When two references disagree, compare the Arabic text and chapter information before treating them as equivalent. An English reference may identify a different arrangement from an Arabic edition. Read the surrounding narrations and scholarly commentary. A single translated sentence is not a complete basis for a personal religious ruling.
Know this library’s coverage
Our reader loads available Arabic Bukhari and Muslim chapters from Wikisource, whose index may be incomplete. Full-collection links open Sunnah.com. HadeethEnc links provide selected translated narrations and explanations; they are not complete translated volumes of every collection. These sources have different scopes, so their entries are not silently paired by number.
Distinguish recordings from synthetic speech
Our optional Arabic read-aloud uses a device voice and may mispronounce names or Arabic wording. It is not an authenticated human recording. Verified recorded audio and sourced transliteration are not provided by this library. For study or quotation, check the original source and its stated edition; a convenient playback feature does not certify the text.
